LECTURE
The Importance of Photoshop for a Graphic Designer
- Expressing your creativity
- Create graphic designs
- Restoring old images
- Artistically integrate graphics with text
- Use brushes
- Change photo color
- Fix mistakes in photos
Prior to Photoshop, photographers used photo manipulation - combining multiple images on one negative to create their desired results. The following picture below is an example of how the visage of the uniformed Harald, who was away on military duties, was inserted and retouched into the Goebbels family photo.

After the invention of Photoshop, anyone could create digital imaging by converting printed text, artwork, and photographs into digital images. Within digital imaging, you can:
- Remove Details/Retouching - Improve appearance or remove distracting or unwanted elements.
- Insert Details - Change facial features, add color to skin, add elements to a scene.
- Photomontage - Pair images to suggest a relationship or create an entirely new image.
- False Captioning - Context of a photograph is falsified to distort its meaning.

PRACTICAL
3 Graphic Design Works
To start of this module, we were tasked to fill a Pinterest board with graphic design works we liked. We were then tasked to choose our three favorite graphic design works from the board, and we should provide reasoning as to why we liked those works.

Explanation: I personally am a big fan of works where classical artworks are incorporated in modern design. The artist also captured the grunge/anti-design aesthetic really well in this work. The textures, color palette, and graphics used are cohesive and looks appealing to the eye. Although I'm not sure what the purpose of this poster is, the overall visuals look amazing.

Explanation: Acid graphics is one of my favorite design movements. It is a style that feels incomprehensible, which I find to be one of its biggest appeals. When used in a musical performance poster, it might give viewers the expectation of a contemporary, unpredictable, and experimental vibe to the upcoming event. I also like the use of 3D chromatic statues to put a modern spin on a cultural classic, making the poster really unique.
Design #3

Explanation: I’m glad that retro design has resurfaced in recent design trends again because they have this nostalgic quality that can’t be found in most design movements. The use of bold and clashing colors, unusual layout, and cultural elements makes this work very eye-catching.
REFLECTION
Taking the time to look at graphic design works by other artists is great! I get to familiarize myself with new styles, design movements, and even ways to improve my own art. It is a way for me to look for more inspiration and to expand my design library.
