3. Reflection
TUTORIAL
Cinemagraph / Self-Titled - Self-titled is an exploration project for the students to express their own individuality and reflect their personality into digital art self-expression. The main idea is to build up self-confidence and discover their interest.
PRACTICAL
Following the sketch I made in the previous week, I'm going to make the my face pulled out of my head as a mask. To do that, I first duplicated the head and masked it to my desired shape. After masking, I duplicated another layer below and used a clipping mask to fill it with a dark color so that the face doesn't look like a floating piece of paper. To make it look like a Greek statue, I also adjusted the saturation and curves so it doesn't look like flesh.

Initially there should be a stretch effect between the mask and the head, but since that might take too long to animate well, I decided to scrap that idea. I continued making the disconnected part in the original head by using the same face and filled it in with a purple gradient. I also applied a bevel and emboss layer style so that it doesn't look flat.

Following the face, I also did some adjustments on the finger so they look like they're a part of the Greek statue.

To add more Greek elements into the poster, I looked up a 3D model of a Greek pillar and screen captured it from different angles. I then made some cracks and colored the insides. I then applied the same gradient map so that it blends with the background.

Afterwards, I scattered the pillars around, and added in a reflection for the pillars connected to the ground. After receiving some feedbacks, I had to revert the face to the original color as it is better than the current version.

After adding in some more pillar shards, adjusting the placements, sizes, and locations of some elements, tweaking the colors, and other finishing touches, the results are as seen in the figure below.

REFLECTION
This week's progress went really well. However, masking the hair to make it fit was hard took a lot of time. Other than that, I'm glad with how the results turned out and this would be a good base to make an animation out of.
