TASK

Character Concept Development
For this task, we had to first figure out an alternative outfit for our character. To start, I looked up for some references for the type of outfit I want to do.

Fig 1.1 References

For the first two designs, I made regional skins for other locations in Wuthering Waves. The first one is a gladiator-like design based off gladiators in Septimont. The second one follows the attire of the characters and NPCs in Rinascita. The third one is a warden design because his character is related with chains. And lastly, as a leader, I made a military general design because it fits his position.

I ended up choosing the Rinascita-inspired design and made an outfit turnaround, while adding more details.

Before finalizing, I tested out several color palettes, and these were the ones I'm more fond off.

Fig 1.4 Alternative Outfit Color Variation

My favorite color palette would be the first and third one. Because his attribute is spectro (light), the third one might fit better because of how yellow can be associated with the light element. Thus, the third color variation is used for my final alternative outfit.

Because we had to prepare an outfit sheet, I also need to try out colors for the original outfit too. I didn't really like the yellow variations on his outfit, so I tried exploring other colors instead.

I end up liking the second design more, because it complements his attack effects which I'd imagine to be yellow. This should help both him and the effects to stand out. I still kept yellow accents here and there though so that it stays in theme.

Next up, I made an expression sheet of possible expressions he could have. I also would like to note the top left expression where he is experiencing overclocking, which causes the same mutation in his arm where light cracks through his skin.

Afterwards, I started working on the weapons. Characters in Wuthering Waves tend to have 2 things used for battle. Because of that, although he is a rectifier user, I decided to give him a staff/spear combo as well. These are some of the designs I sketched up.

I chose to use the following designs, and made a turnaround for both weapons. I chose this rectifier design because it has lots of dangling and floaty components which would look fun in battle. On the other hand, I chose this staff design because out of all the designs, it would look cool and magical when he channels his chains. I also colored it in following his color palette.

I continued by sketching up several poses that he might do. Some are more idle/static while some are dynamic to showcase what he might look like in battle.

Out of each page, I decided to clean up one pose that I think has potential to be used in the splash art.

Lastly, I colored in the pose I liked best using the color palette. I also did some shading and lighting so it doesn't look flat.

REFLECTION

Overall, I really liked how this task turned out. I could see Junsheng become an actual playable character with flashy skills and abilities which is really fun to imagine. But like the previous task, I also think that I could have added more details in each of the work. For example, the alternative outfit could have more details, or maybe a change in hairstyle too.
