INSTRUCTIONS

EXERCISE

Exercise 1 - Quantify Data
Before starting the exercise, we were first instructed to redesign an infographic with a bad design. To start, I looked for some infographics as my inspiration on how I could approach this exercise.

I also looked for some poorly designed infographics, and after some time, I found this infographic that looks rather plain and lacked a theme/style in the visuals used.

I first started by laying out all the information. I realized afterwards though that the infographic I chose was a template-like design that had no real information in it. It instead has lorem ipsum- as its content. However, since I started working already, I chose to go through with it.

I then finished it with some tweaks, adjustments, and decorations, all with a consistent theme.

Afterwards, I started working on the first exercise. At first I couldn't think of what items I have a lot of. But then I remembered I had lots of coins I never used, left sitting in a coin pouch. I started by sorting out all the coins I have, categorizing them by value, color, size, and an extra category for older coins.

I then arranged and designed it into the following work below. I had to remove some 20 cent coins though since with the configuration below, I couldn't fit all of them in.

Exercise 2 - L.A.T.C.H

The second exercise was to create an poster of Pokémons using the L.A.T.C.H (Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, Hierarchy) principles. I was a bit unsure on how to approach this exercise at first, so I started by figuring out what I want to categorize. I decided to do all the gyms from Pokémon Emerald for this exercise. To start, I looked for some references for my design direction and elements.

Afterwards, I recreated some of the elements I will use in Illustrator. I made the Pokémon logo, the gym badges, and the Pokémon types of each gym leader.

Then, I downloaded the pictures of the gym leaders with their signature Pokémons, and designed the infographic inspired by the aesthetics of  Pokémon Emerald. I decided to use Photoshop for laying things out because I need to mask some elements. I then arranged them in order of how the battles are faced in game.

To finish it off, I finalized the infographic with some additional information, details, and layout adjustments.

FEEDBACK

Week 1 Make sure to have lots of coins to work on the categorization.

Week 2 -

REFLECTION

Although thinking making infographics might be easy, it actually took me some time to think of the best layout to fit in all the information I had. This was more apparent on the 2nd exercise, because I chose to challenge myself for the by choosing 8 subjects instead of the 4 most people are doing. It was a good practice nonetheless.
